Our Favourite Cycle Routes is an illustrated guide to two wonderful bike routes – starting close to Sheffield's boundaries and heading out to some of the city's beautiful surrounding countryside.
One side of the guide will take you on a challenging 60-mile ride in spectacular, hilly terrain, starting in the east of the city and taking in sights like Dam Flask, Dale Dyke and Ladybower reservoirs, Boot's Folly, the plague village of Eyam, and Mayfield Alpacas. The second route is a 40-mile circular from Penistone, passing through Holmfirth – home to Last of the Summer Wine – and past Woodhead and Winscar reservoirs. Both routes come with a couple of pointers on where to stop off for an ice-cream, eggs on toast or a cheeky glass of excellent local ale along the way.
